The Origins of Chaguaramas
Macqueripe Bay - Chaguaramas |
Chaguaramas is home to some of Trinidad’s most beautifully staggering natural imagery, recreational facilities and wildlife preservation sites, its name was derived from some of the earliest settlers on the island of Trinidad, dating back to 100 – 400 A.D. it is the Amerindian name for palm, which gives us some insight on its topography during this time. It boasts a quite intriguing history not only by virtue of the island’s complex past but its location as it is the north western peninsula of Trinidad, we will also include the other smaller offshore islands extending west of Chaguaramas which is still part of the mainland which served as a major transshipment hub for many centuries.
Chaguaramas Boardwalk |
Welcome to my blog about Chaguaramas, where we would explore
the many picturesque sites, recreational activities and places of historical
significance it has to offer. From the pirates that inhabited the isle of
Gasper Grande during the era of Edward Teach (the infamous “Blackbeard”) to the
United States naval bases established on the mainland during world war II , Chaguaramas
truly has some interesting stories to tell.
